Fleur-de-Lis Club members met on Thursday, June 25, at 1 p.m. at the home of hostess, Nancy Kimmel. The group then car-pooled to the Wooden Wheel Winery near Keota, on Highway 92, owned by Mike and Connie Vincent who are fifth-generation owners. Connie Vincent gave the group a very interesting and informative tour of their wine-making and tasting facility as well as the Event Center. They grow five varieties of grapes on seven acres. A 300 gallon holding container will produce 1,400 ? 1,500 bottles of wine. The bottles are gravity hand-filled and then corked and labeled. They have 25 distribution stores in Iowa. The group then tasted a variety of 14 kinds of wines they have, some named after family members. The Wooden Wheel Winery Event Center is a great place for receptions, reunions, holiday parties and business meetings, etc.
Following the tour and tasting, a short business meeting was held and presided over by president Nancy Kimmel. Roll call was answered with members telling of their favorite wine they tasted and their summer vacation plans. The secretary-treasurer reports were given by Linda Birney. The group then went back to Washington to the Korner Kremery, where the hostess treated members to strawberry sundaes.
The club will not meet during the months of July and August. The next meeting will be Sept.24, at 1:30 p.m. with Bev Crandall as hostess.
