KEOSAUQUA ? The cast has been chosen, rehearsals are under way and tickets are on sale for the Van Buren Players? production of the musical comedy ?Flight of the Lawnchair Man.?
The musical is loosely based on an actual lawnchair flight by Larry Walters in 1982.
Cast in leads are Mike Plecker as Jerry Gorman, Jessica Ehrenfelt as Gracie, Blain Smith as Big Jack, Heather Charbonneau as Blaire and Barbara Morris as Mother Gorman. Rounding out the cast and playing cameo roles are: Sydney Atwood, Tiffany Beggs, Dick Breckenridge, Gloria Breckenridge, Joey Carr, Allison Dickinson, Jay Goldstein, Lydia Heald, Chris Kauffman, Deb Kirchner, Kara Lewis, Calvin Mertens, Dave Paulek, Tommee Pelkey, Sam Polonsky, Linda Mitcheltree, Twyla Peacock, Vicki Robertson, Larry Shipley, Ronda Watson and Samantha Westercamp.
Rehearsals are under way, and the set under construction to actually ?fly? Jerry Gorman?s lawnchair provides quite a challenge.
Directing the musical are David and Kathleen Paulek, who first saw the musical at the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, Tenn., and felt that it would be an enjoyable musical for the local audience.
The musical was written by a team with Iowa ties: Peter Ullian, a graduate of the University of Iowa Playwright Workshop and Robert Lindsey-Nassif, a Cedar Rapids native. It is produced with permission of Theatrical Right Worldwide.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24-25 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at Roberts Memorial Center.
Ticket price range is $5 to $7 and are available at Community First Bank in Keosauqua.
