The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade Fairfield Middle School bands will present a winter concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the school cafetorium.
?The students have been working hard on a variety of literature for your listening enjoyment,? said Mary Andersen, the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade band teacher.
The sixth-grade will perform: ?Overlords,? an ominous, full sounding piece by Sean O?Laughlin; ?Go Tell It on the Mountain,? a holiday carol arranged with a bit of a gospel rock beat by Bruce Pearson; ?Blue Note Rock? by Sandy Feldstein and John O?Reilly; and ?Trumpet Hero? by Paul Lavender, which features both the trumpets and an added drum break written by student Dylan Barras and fifth-grade band director Aaron Adam.
The seventh-grade band will perform holiday pieces ?Chanson de Noel? arranged by Larry Neeck and ?Silver Bells? arranged by Johnnie Vinson; as well as a programmatic piece titled ?Hound of the Baskervilles? by Mekel Rogers, based upon the famous chase scene in the Sherlock Holmes book.
The eighth-grade band will perform a holiday medley titled ?Victorian Christmas? arranged by Eric Branchfield; themes from ?The Polar Express? movie arranged by Paul Lavender; and ?Hope Springs Eternal,? an original band work by Andrew Poor.
Admission for the concert is $2 for adults and $1 for students, with district activity passes allowed.
?Hope to see you there,? said Andersen.
