The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade bands will present their final concert of the school year at 7 p.m. Monday in the Fairfield Middle Cafetorium.
?We hope you can come hear the bands? progress at their spring concert,? said Mary Andersen, director of the bands.
The sixth-grade band will play five selections, which are primarily based upon folk songs from Russia, China and South Africa. They also will play the perennial TV theme favorite ?Batman.?
The seventh-grade band will be playing a traditional piece by Tyler S. Grant titled ?Chant and Fire Ritual.? Tyler Grant is a high school student in Alabama, and the band is planning a Skype session with him to talk about his early career as a composer. The seventh-grade band also will play some programmatic and lighter selections, including: ?Curse of Tutankhamun,? which tells the story of the curse of King Tut?s tomb; ?Crazy for Cartoons,? which sounds a lot like the Bugs Bunny music parents remember from Saturday mornings; and ?Firework,? Katie Perry?s hit.
The eighth-grade band will close the concert with two selections featuring the clarinet and trumpet sections: ?Clarinet Hoedown? and ?Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.? They also will perform a programmatic piece called ?Sands of Egypt? and close with John Williams Trilogy, which takes selections from three John Williams movie scores: ?Jurassic Park,? ?Schindler?s List? and ?Raiders of the Lost Ark.?
Admission will be charged: $2 for adults and $1 for students. Fairfield Community School District activity passes will be honored.
