FMS jazz bands present concert Thursday evening
Fairfield Middle School jazz bands will present their annual jazz band concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the FMS Cafetorium.
The sixth-grade group will play pieces from the ?Essential Elements of Jazz? book that will demonstrate beginning examples of jazz style. They also will perform ?Fat Burger,? a funk tune by George Vincent.

Fairfield Middle School jazz bands will present their annual jazz band concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the FMS Cafetorium.
The sixth-grade group will play pieces from the ?Essential Elements of Jazz? book that will demonstrate beginning examples of jazz style. They also will perform ?Fat Burger,? a funk tune by George Vincent.
The seventh- and eighth-grade jazz band will play several jazz styles in two sets, including: swing tunes ?Swing Time? by Jerry Nowack and ?Satin Doll,? a classic by Duke Ellington; a Latin tune, ?Jive Samba? by Nat Adderley, arranged by Terry White; ?Pick Yourself Up? by Dorothy Fields and Jerome Kern, arranged by Rick Stitzel; a blues tune, ?One Sixty Blues? by Doug Beach and George Shutack; and a rock classic, ?Mustang Sally,? by Bonny Rice, arranged by Victor Lopez.
Soloists include: Gannon Courtright on alto saxophone, Kai-Li Diyaljee on trumpet, the eighth-grade trumpet section, and Dakota Storto on trombone.
Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students. District activity passes will be honored.
