Fitzpatrick was educated in Rome, Italy and held his first stateside mass at his home parish, St. Alphonsus, in Mt. Pleasant.
He attended grade school in the New London Community School District, and was a brother to the late Mark Fitzpatrick.
The public is invited to celebrate on Sunday, June 28, where he will preside at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. masses at St. Alphonsus, where he began in 1971. A reception in Manning Hall will follow both masses.
