The Fairfield Public Library is planning a free educational workshop series called ?Technology Tuesdays.?
Input from patrons will help determine the topics for computer users at all experience levels from newbie to uber-geek.
?Workshop requests have run the gamut from very basic ? how to use a mouse and keyboard ? to using advanced software features,? said library director Rebecca Johnson. ?Libraries are increasingly tech-driven, and our patrons want help with e-book downloads and programs and databases.?
To suggest topics, go to www.myfairfieldlibrary.com and click on the survey tab. Print the form, fill it out and drop it off in person or mail it to Fairfield Public Library, Attn: Survey, 104 W. Adams Ave., Fairfield 52556.
A survey also will be mailed with the Fairfield municipal water bill during a four-week period.
Organizers say taking a few minutes to give feedback will enable the library to offer the most in-demand and relevant workshops based on the needs of the community.
After the survey results are tallied, workshops will be scheduled into the library?s online calendar.
In April, the people who provided email addresses will receive notifications, and others can check the online calendar or call the library. Registration will become available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The library has recently hired new tech support specialist Michael Cacioppo to help implement and develop Technology Tuesdays.
?Initially, 12 of the library?s public computers will be reserved for each workshop, and instruction will take place in the center of the public area ... a buddy system can be used, with two people at each computer for a maximum of 24,? said Cacioppo. ?Pending receipt of funds, our goal is to acquire a rechargeable cartful of 24 Dell laptops to wheel into the meeting room. That way, we will have a classroom for 48 students where the ceiling-mounted projector and large screen will be advantageous.? Donors who would like to contribute to the Laptop Acquisition Program can call Johnson at 472-6551 for information.
With more than 10 years in IT management, Cacioppo worked with The Learning Annex in New York with a focus on adult education and curriculum development support.
