A free showing of the film 'The Omaha Speaking” will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Dalby Hall on the Maharishi University of Management campus.
The 65-minute documentary will be presented by creator/director Brigitte Timmerman and two of the native fluent speakers of Omaha.
The film is about the language of the Omaha tribe. With less than a dozen fluent speakers, the tribe developed education programs for the language at the kindergarten through 12th-grade and community college levels.
Omaha-based director Timmerman produced the documentary, working in partnership with Omaha tribal elder Octa Keen, hoping to do her part to help the language survive.
'The Omaha Speaking” is a nominated for Best Documentary at the Red Nation Film Festival.
Admission is free, and the presentation is open to the public.
The program is sponsored by M.U.M. and the Fairfield & TM Information Center.
