Free vision screenings are being offered to children by the Lockridge Lions Club on Monday, July 1, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lockridge Community Building at 104 West Main Street in Lockridge.
Screenings are in partnership with Iowa KidSight under the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Vision screening provides instant photographs of a child's eyes to determine the presence of eye disorders such as far- and nearsighted, astigmatism, anisometropia or unequal refractive power, misaligned eyes and cataracts.
No physical contact will be made with a child and no eye drops are used during vision screenings.
This screening is approximately 90 percent effective in detecting problems that can cause reduced vision.
Participation is voluntary. Children between six months old and six years will be screened. Children who are younger than this will not be screened. Children who are older can be screened; however, there are others tests available that are designed for children who can communicate specific vision problems.
No child will be screened without a signed and completed consent form. Each individual child will need their own consent form.
Questions can be directed to Judy Warning at 319-696-2196.
