Fundraisers begin for charitable causes

Thirteen members of the Crawfordsville Wednesday Study Club met in the United Church of Crawfordsville Fellowship Hall for a noon luncheon on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Following the flag salute, recitation of the Club Collect and the singing of the Doxology, a meal of delicious salads provided by the 2017-18 loosing reading team was enjoyed by all. Hostesses Cathy Williams, Pauline Richardson and Debbie Lowe also provided casseroles, dinner rolls and beverages. Tables were decorated with an autumn theme.

The business meeting was opened by President Clarissa Malmberg. Several members shared some intersting book briefs of what they had read over the summer and /or what they were currently reading. Members are already working on their lists for the 2018-19 year. The minutes and treasurer's reports were read and approved.The 2018-19 dues are now payable. The new program books were handed out and perused.

Wilma then shared the statistics of the 2017-18 reading teams. She gave interesting facts about the number of books read by individuals over the last few years and total number of books read by both teams. Names were drawn to determine the teams for 2018-19.

The meeting then adjourned and ice cream was served for dessert.

The WACO C.R.O.P Drive (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) provides funds for those in need around the world and here at home. This drive runs September 30-October 31 and the goal this year is $35,000. 25% of the proceeds are used within the WACO Community. In 2017 this money helped support WACO summer lunch and backpack programs.

This year On His Path at Wayland is sponsoring their third annual gifts for Guatemala. Persons may choose to help by filling a one gallon size zip lock bag with small toys for boys and girls. You must specify which your bag is going to support. A bag may may be filled with small toys, hygiene products, school supplies, etc. Suggestions are Hot Wheel cars, Small stuffed toys, Crayons, Stickers, Small puzzles, Trading cards, Jump ropes, Toothbrushes, Hairbrushes and Clips. No food, gum or candy or toys that require batteries.

These gifts will be gathered at On His Path and packaged and shipped to Bethel Ministries International in Guatemala for disbursement.
