OTTUMWA ?Video game world record holder Lonnie McDonald of Kansas City will be playing the game Joust from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the original Twin Galaxies location in Ottumwa.
McDonald intends on breaking a world record on the video game, which will be recognized at TwinGalaxies.com, which is officially recognized by Guiness.
McDonald has toured the country in his spare time the past year playing Joust at more than 60 locations. He has been honored numerous times, including this summer at the Northwest Pinball Expo in Seattle, Wash.
Walter Day of Fairfield, who opened Twin Galaxies and is known for his record-keeping of the top scores of video games, will not be in attendance due to scheduling conflicts with another video game event in the Chicago area. But he noted the historical significane of the event; a video game event hasn?t occurred inside the original Twin Galaxies location since the 1980s.
Also of note, Day continued, Monday marks the 30th anniversary of the game Joust by Chicago video game company William?s Electronics in 1982.
