The Garden Department of the Fortnightly Club met Oct. 21, 2014, at the home of Shirley Pfeifer. Six members were present. It was the group?s last meeting for 2014.
The minutes from the September meeting were read, corrections were made and minutes were approved. It was announced that the Fortnightly Club has added a new department, which is Washington County History. There was no other new business or old business to discuss.
The program was given by Shirley Pfeifer and was titled ?RHS Chelsea Flower Show.? Shirley had taken a trip to England and visited this show. People from all over the world were there. (?RHS? stands for ?Royal Horticultural Society.?) The program was very informative and interesting. The plant of the year is determined at this show. People who work in England?s gardens have to have a two-year course and certification before they are allowed to work in the gardens.
Refreshments were prepared and served by Jane Fehr.
The next meeting will be Feb. 17 at the home of Myrna Mittler. The program will be ?Homemade Spring Cards? by Mary Langr. Roll call will be on the topic ?What You Like About Making Cards.?
