Garden Department meets as Spring nears

The Garden Department of Fortnightly Club had their first meeting of the season at the Washington Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Members in attendance were Jan Boyd, Jane Kruse, Mary Langr, Shirley Pfeifer and Linda Varney, with guest Charlotte Magdefrau.

Making three garden themed cards at this meeting, always hosted by Mary Langr, is a welcome reminder that gardening is not far off. One exception to Spring 'flavored” cards this year was winter-weather inspired. The club made a card of winter trees and snow, which turned out beautifully despite the dread of more snow.

The other two cards were one with a 3D basket of flowers and the other of superimposed butterflies. A very good time was had by all and refreshments of strawberries and cream puffs were enjoyed.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Linda Varney on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. Those interested should call 319-591-9035
