The Fairfield library's Garden Reads Book Club will read 'The Winter Harvest Handbook: Year-Round Vegetable Production Using Deep-Organic Techniques and Unheated Greenhouses” by Eliot Coleman for its November book. Learn proven techniques from a master organic farmer to grow your own delicious food in any climate. They will meet Thursday, Nov. 12.
Thanks to new equipment, the library now offers a hybrid approach to book club hosting. Participants have three options:
1. 12 people attend in person, or
2. 12 people attend via Zoom, or
3. Up to eight people attend in person while the rest attend via Zoom. Audio and video are enabled in both directions.
The library's meeting room has its own air handler, separate from the rest of the building. In addition, the library runs an Austin Air Healthmate HM-400-HEGA air purifier in that room during book club meetings. The room is large enough to accommodate 12 socially distanced people.
Masks are required for in-person attendance, group size is limited to 12, and advance registration allows staff to provide books thru interlibrary loan service. Copies of the book are available to borrow first-come, first-served for a $2 fee.
Register by calling the front desk at 641-472-6551 x2. A library employee will add your name to the list, and email a Zoom invitation if you choose to attend remotely.
The time for this event is TBA, as the coordinator would like to find a time that works best for the most people. For more information, or to state your preference, contact the front desk. This program is co-sponsored by the Jefferson County Iowa State University Extension & Outreach.
