Locals had a chance to test their home recipes Friday for the inaugural german chocolate cake contest at 1st Fridays Art Walk Oktoberfest celebration. Locals had a chance to test their home recipes Friday for the inaugural german chocolate cake contest at 1st Fridays Art Walk Oktoberfest celebration. Jordan Van Dijk of the Chocolate Café carefully collects cakes Friday afternoon from contestants for the evening?s competition. The grand prize went to the Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store, and The Chocolate Cafe came in second in the group category. In the adult category, Sue Gail and Lauren Kiernan tied for first place. A panel of four judges ? Steve Arndt, Tim Hawthorne, Karin Hauring and Dave Neff ? sampled the cakes to determine the winning traditional treat.
