Gayle E. Patterson, 69, of Ottumwa, died at 6:55 p.m. December 30, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

She was born September 12, 1949 in Ottumwa to William and Eva Brewer Freshouer. She married Veryl Dean Patterson on April 30, 1965 and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2007.

Gayle grew up in Ottumwa and lived in Salem, IA where she worked 30 years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She retired in 2014 and moved back to Ottumwa.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is a daughter, Patty (Bob) Johnson of Ottumwa; two sons, David (Kelly) Patterson of Oskaloosa and Dan (Kelly) Patterson of Salem, IA; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera McCabe of Nashville, TN and Dena Richardson of Peoria, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, Mary Graves, Joe Freshour, Jack Freshour and Helen Freshouer.

Her body has been cremated. Private inurnment will be in East Salem Cemetery at a later date.

Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa is in charge of arrangements.
