Caitlin Fishback of Washington has donated $500 to the Washington County Fair Building Fund.
Fishback, a 12-year-old member of the Jackson Jets 4-H Club, earned the $500 from her bucket/bottle calf project that she showed at the Washington County Fair for two years.
KALONA ? The Kalona City Council Monday approved a $10,000 allocation to the Mid-Prairie School District to help pay the $25,455.56 total cost of drainage ditch repairs at Mid-Prairie Middle School.

RIVERSIDE ? Highland Community School district directors Monday night set the bid-opening date for the new elementary school at Riverside. Directors will host the bid opening at a special meeting Dec. 20 at Highland High School.
Members of the Washington Athletic Boosters Club are heading into Step 2 in their efforts to construct an all-weather track at Case Field. They have the funds to do the survey.
Ag land prices are up, according to the annual ISU Extension land survey released this morning. That 7.6 to 8.8 percent increase is good news if you already own land, bad news if you rent or are a new farmer.

Ralph Unternahrer of Vetter?s Inc. in Washington has been named the top Culligan Water Conditioning salesperson in Iowa for 1984. He was also one of 21 water conditioning salespeople nationwide to be admitted this year to the Culligan network?s prestigious President?s Club.
Nancy Schmidt began duties as Washington County Extension 4-H and Youth Leader, Dec. 3. She succeeds Shanna Cellman who left the part-time post to become Extension home economist in Washington and Johnson counties.
A vehicle hit B.J.?s Café on the south side of the square about 10 a.m. today, breaking out the front window and stopping just inside the building. The driver was charged with failure to maintain control after it was determined that she had accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while she was in a parking space.

A Burlington Northern locomotive collided with the cab of a semitrailer truck as the train was crossing East Washington Street at South Sixth Avenue here shortly after noon on Wednesday. No one was injured and no charges were filed.
Entries from Maurice Crawford of Wellman and Robert Williams of Crawfordsville were selected as the grand champion carlot of heifers by the Peoria Livestock Marketing Foundation at Peoria Union Stockyards, Dec. 5.
Tim Wehr of California has returned there after a 30-day leave in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milo T. Sorden. He will leave Jan. 1 for a two-year assignment in Tokyo, Japan, as staff photographer for ?Stars and Stripes.?

The Rev. Carlyle J. Smith has resigned his position as pastor of the First Christian Church to accept the pastorate of the United Christian and Congregational Church in Mitchell, Neb.
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department held its annual election of officers meeting Wednesday at the VFW Hall. New officers are Chief Bill Brown, first assistant Tom Tanner, second assistant Walter Starr and secretary Mike See.
