In a 4-3 vote last night, the Washington School Board decided to pursue the Renovate facilities option.
After an initial vote for the Bow Tie plan, on a motion by Cathy Rich, seconded by Tim Orris, failed with only one other vote of support from Greg Giardino, Jim Gorham moved for a vote in support of the Renovate plan, and was seconded by Darice Keating. Board president Julie Peshkin and Stephen Butler added their vote in favor of renovation.
Patrick Finney, director of the Washington Public Library, requested an increase in funding for fiscal year 2005-2006, at this morning?s Washington County Board of Supervisors? meeting.
WELLMAN ? In an attempt to forestall an extended school year, the Mid-Prairie Board of Education, Monday, approved making Friday, Jan. 14, and Monday, Jan. 17, makeup days for classes that were canceled last week. The district held school only one day, Jan. 7, in the wake of ice and snow that made roads dangerous to travel. Both days had been scheduled as staff in-service.

Washington County will receive $29,000 from the Iowa Department of Transportation for damages incurred to county roads G26 and W61 by increased traffic this summer. The two roads were detour routes around Washington while widening of East Washington Street (Highway 92) was accomplished.
Craig Arbuckle, city attorney for Brighton and Washington, has been elected to the board of directors of the Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association.

The Washington Chamber of Commerce announced that more than $9,000 worth of Chamber currency was purchased for gift-giving the recent holiday season. The currency, which John Prochaska refers to as a generic Washington gift certificate, was introduced in April and thus far, $12,400 in such currency has been purchased.
FTD, the worldwide flowers-by-wire delivery association, has announced that Wolf Floral of Washington has become an honored member of the FTD Golden Circle which honors top selling and fast-growing FTD members.
Dish-style television antennae would be relegated to the backyards of Washington residences under restrictions the Washington City Council pledged to consider Tuesday night. City officials said their intent is to head off potential complaints over the clutter and unsightliness of the TV dishes, should they become popular here.

Milo D. Orris has been named to the board of directors of the Washington State Bank, officials announced today.
Lester Luckenbill, a soil conservation aide for the Washington Soil Conservation District for nearly 14 years, has retired from that post.
Harold L. Boyd announced that effective today he is merging his practice with the firm of Baldridge and Baldridge. The firm will be known as Baldridge, Baldridge, Boyd and Bordwell.
Blair House will come tumbling. The Washington City Council made the historic decree Wednesday night in a unanimous 6-0 vote, following a hearing on the 100-year-old former City Hall which has been described variously as ?a fine example of Second Empire Revival-style architecture? and ?an eyesore.?

Guy Montgomery returned to classes today as a junior medical student at the State University of Iowa after holiday visits with friends in and around Los Angeles, Calif. While there, he met with Gordon Morris, Bill Moore, the Havel boys and Jerry Marie.
