After receiving an update from Washington Public Library director Patrick Finney concerning the relocation of the library at its regular meeting last evening, the Washington City Council appointed councilwoman Sandra Johnson to serve as liaison between the city and the library foundation as the proposed relocation project nears completion.
The Washington Country Club board would like to connect a sanitary sewer force main to the City of Washington?s existing sewer system, a request the Washington City Council discussed during last night?s council meeting.
An injured bobcat that was found on Hwy. 218, Friday had to be put down due to injuries it had received from being hit by a vehicle.

Several Washington High School instructors spent some of their summer vacation at a Renaissance seminar and returned so enthralled that a new program will be implemented at the high school. The program, offered in a number of schools nationwide, is designed to create a ?renaissance? in education to promote and recognize academic achievement and citizenship.
Washington County will borrow $400,000 of the $450,000 needed to fund the courthouse roof renovation, supervisors decided this morning. The supervisors instructed county officials to draft a resolution to borrow the funds needed to cover the project and will host a public hearing on the resolution, Nov. 9.
Bob Davis of Columbus Junction reports a yield of 176.4 bushels No. 2 corn per acre. He planted April 22, harvested Oct. 5 with a final stand of 24,000 plants per acre using Crow 668. Harvest moisture was 23.7 percent.

A local tuba player has turned his love for his instrument into a crusade to provide quality music and teaching tools for tuba players. Gary McCurdy, manager of West-Everetts Music Store in Washington, owns a tuba music writing and publishing company called TMC Publications.
The Washington High School Marching Band under the direction of Beth Navara and Kent Keating, received the second-highest ranking in Class A competition Saturday, receiving 67.8 points. Ten bands participated in the Class A state contest at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
With all five members of the Jim Harris family now involved, the Allen Travel Agency of Washington and Fairfield is now definitely a family business. The latest to join the company is LeAnne Harris who began working in the Fairfield office in September. Allen Travel was established by Jim and Beverly Harris in 1966.

Kirkwood Community College has leased the old Iowa Highway Commission district engineer?s headquarters on Sixth Avenue and opened a new Washington learning center. The center will offer General Educational Development (GED) tests for high school equivalency certification; adult high school completion courses; and tutoring in English skills and mathematics.
Elmer Schneider of Riverside and Mrs. Leroy Mineart of Brighton were presented special 4-H recognition plaques for their long and valued service to 4-H clubs in Washington County at the recent county 4-H awards night.
Eighty acres of farmland in Seventy-six Township of Washington County sold for a record $2,000 per acre. The 80 acres was one of three parcels of land auctioned by Dick Hagist of Keota for the Forrest Green Trust. Successful bidders on the tract were J.R. and F.W. Gretter.

Bob Krotz, a junior in journalism at Iowa State University, has been selected for membership in the ISU chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism society. He is currently serving as sports editor of the Iowa State Daily. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Krotz of Washington.
W.G. ?Billy? Cox spent the past four days here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Cox. He was on his way home to Los Angeles after spending four months in Europe on business.
