The main point of discussion at this morning?s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting was the 28E agreement for law enforcement between the city and the county.
The county signed an agreement on May 4 of this year and the city has not yet signed it. The city would like to have a multi-year agreement, based on percentages, not costs.
To say that members of the Facilities Committee have done their homework understates the depth of research they have accumulated during the past year.
The Washington Community School District Board of Education met for nearly four hours, last evening, and listened to two proposals the committee has developed.

Washington school board members, meeting in regular session Wednesday night, moved to accept an invitation from the South Central Conference, if extended. The Board voted to withdraw from the Southeast Seven Conference, should no offer be extended.
Republicans, on both the state and local ballots, were swept into office by Washington County voters Tuesday. County voters gave the nod to most of the incumbents. However, one of the casualties was two-term county supervisor Ed Brophy who fell to Raymond Lasek.

Larry Fishback was named the most valuable player of the Washington football team this season. Fishback also received the outstanding offensive lineman award. Other awards were given to Tim Brock, outstanding offensive back; Chris Anderson, outstanding defensive lineman; and Mike Liebe, outstanding defensive secondary.
Overall, 7,870 Washington County registered voters participated in this fall?s election, a 77 percent turnout. That topped the 72 percent of voters who participated in the 1980 presidential election, but was shy of the 82 percent who turned out for the 1976 presidential sweepstakes.
John ?Bill? Patterson has retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation after 33 years of service. Beginning as an equipment operator in Washington in 1951, Patterson retired as a maintenance management assistant at the DOT engineer?s office in Washington in September.

At a recent meeting of the Senior Citizens Council, the resignation of Mrs. Grace Kerr as director was regretfully accepted. Mrs. Kerr has served as program director for eight years. She first served as co-director with her husband, George, when the council was first organized.
Dr. K.J. Marshall of Washington announced today her intention of leaving the community for Arizona. She has been practicing medicine here for the past few years. Her work in Arizona will be in a medical clinic.

Yale Jarvis won the ?First Timers Award? at the Jaycees meeting in Marion during the past weekend.
Mrs. Harold Van Ness and Ruth Gideon, Journal correspondents, both report picking strawberries, an unusual happening on Election Day.
Pat McClure, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don McClure, of Washington and Delores Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Martin, were two of 23 coeds chosen at the State College of Iowa to be queen of the Associated Men?s Residence.
