County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar now has the authority of the county supervisors to open the Washington County Jail.
The Army made official plans, Monday, for a homecoming ceremony honoring the return of the 308th Quartermaster Company from a year?s deployment in Iraq.
A clause clearly making the Washington County Sheriff the top administrator of the Washington Police was added to a previously approved city/county law contract by county supervisor Randy Payne. Payne said County Attorney Barb Edmondson agreed with the addition of the clause that would make current mayoral appointee Capt. Greg Goodman the department?s No. 3 man, under the command of the sheriff and the chief deputy.

It may have been his love of farming that kept Chris Yoder healthy and spry for 103 years, but actually he says he ?never had a secret? for his longevity. ?I never would have imagined I?d reach this age,? said Yoder.
RICHLAND ? Authorities are searching for a man who made off with an undisclosed amount of cash after holding up the Firstar Bank in Richland with a sawed-off shotgun, Wednesday. The suspect, a white male in his late 30s, has a salt-and-pepper, neatly trimmed beard and mustache and a ?distinguished nose,? according to the Keokuk County Sheriff?s Department.
DES MOINES ? The Columbus wrestling team led the school to its first-ever state title in any sport at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Saturday night. Randy Pugh won a state title at 145 pounds; Bobby Forseen (140) placed second and four other Wildcats placed in the top six.

Heavyweight Chris Anderson and 185-pounder Ben Greiner won titles Saturday as Washington placed second in the team standings of the Class 2A Sectional wrestling tournament.
Washington Troop 242 marks its 25th anniversary and joins Boy Scouts of America in celebrating the 75th anniversary of Scouting this year. Two members of Troop 242 will be honored as Eagle Scouts also, Tim Nicola and Tom Weller.

Projects ranging from a poster contest to a discussion of the role of ethnic groups in American history were the subject of the Washington County Bicentennial Committee meeting, this week. Representatives of other communities, notably Brighton and Kalona, attended.
WAYLAND ? Larry B. Donaldson placed second in the Soldier of the Year contest of Company B, Torri Station, Okinawa. He was invited to attend the Soldier of the Year banquet since his buddy, who was named to first place, received early orders to return to the states and was unable to attend.
Mrs. Margaret Tuttle received the Iowa State Alumni Key in recognition of her community service at the Alumni Association?s meeting at The Captain?s Table, Saturday night. The award was presented by David Birney, president.
Marcia Vittetoe has taken a position as court reporter for Judge Charles N. Pettit, chief judge of the Eighth Judicial District of Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Lance have returned from a monthlong stay in Fort Myers, Fla.
Nancy Osincup of Washington is a member of the Drake University Choir which will go on tour Feb. 24-28. Miss Osincup is a sophomore in the College of Fine Arts and sings also in the choir. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Osincup.
Ralph Roberts, stationed in San Diego, is spending a month?s leave from the Navy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Roberts.
