As Aaron Jaspering and Seth LIbe worked Tuesday morning loading heavy pieces of wood – remnants of a tree that fell during Friday's storm – the mercury broke 90 degrees.
Both knew they were going to be out in the heat for a while. As workers for Bob's Tree Service, they planned to be out until the sun went down. Both also knew this wasn't the hottest it would get. Predictions are for the heat index to climb well past 100 degrees. In order to stay healthy, both planned to take steps to keep the heat from getting to them.
Many Washington residents will be talking with inner city Chicago high school students in July.
The Mikva Challenge program is providing an educational opportunity to approximately 30 Chicago high school students who will be conducting a survey to provide Washington with information about citizens' priorities.
CRAWFORDSVILLE – Mayor Tom Conrad said today that the City of Crawfordsville can't afford the cost of digging a new well, but because of damage to the existing well, it will have to.
This morning a 5,000-gallon water truck sat outside the shed that acts as the city's water treatment plant located in the shadow of the 30,000-gallon water tower. A portable pump hooked to the truck pumped the water from the tanker into the tower to supply the 170 water users in town. The water, given to the city by the city of Olds, will supply the city.

Kalona Plastics Inc. will receive a $100,000 loan from the state Economic Development Board.
Washington plans its ninth annual Arts Festival this weekend in Central Park. The event kicks off Thursday night with opening ceremonies and the Washington Municipal Band concert. Entertainment continues through Sunday afternoon.
The beach at Lake Darling is among several beaches that have been selected for testing under Gov. Tom Vilsack's proposed water quality monitoring initiative funded by the state Legislature. Water samples taken at Lake Darling originally tested rather high according to Park Ranger Jeff Hildebrand, Lake Darling State Park.
Washington County Hospital and Clinics will be holding a grand opening Sunday in order to celebrate the completion of the construction and renovation project. The physical therapy area is two times the size of the old area. The addition of a CT Scan to Radiology will enable people to have CT scans done locally anytime.

Ticket selling paid off for Susan Havel as she was crowned First Lady at the Washington Sesquicentennial Ball, Friday night. Havel, a 1989 graduate of Washington High School, received her crown from Marilyn Nebel, the queen of Washington's 125th anniversary in 1954.
'Out of sight but not out of mind” could have been the sentiments of members of the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday night, as the board made several decisions on the county care facility. Management of the facility, under the name of Orchard Hill, has been turned over to ResCare, a private firm based in Fairfield.
In a special council meeting Tuesday night, city leaders deferred action until July 18 on what to do, if anything, about the bite health insurance premiums are taking from married city employees' paychecks.

Linda Ledger, of Washington, and Alan Richardson, of Crawfordsville, were selected to represent Washington County at the State 4-H Leadership Conference taking place June 25-29 near Madrid.
