ELDON ? The American Gothic House and center will honor its volunteers and their service with a potluck dinner from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Gothic House Center.
The American Gothic House and center draws visitors from across the United States and around the world. Although the center has a small staff, it is unable to operate seven days a week without the help of an extensive volunteer staff willing to share their time and expertise to greet and educate visitors on the house, Grant Wood and his life.
Each year, one evening is set aside to honor these volunteers and their service with a potluck dinner. The theme of this year?s event is ?Volunteers are the Seeds to our Success.?
In the past year, 49 volunteers have devoted more than 1,600 hours to the American Gothic House Center greeting visitors, providing tours and taking pictures of folks in costume in front of the American Gothic House.
The center is always in need of additional volunteers. Volunteers say it is a rewarding experience where two days are never the same. If volunteering at the center is appealing, the event Saturday would be an ideal time to meet other volunteers and learn more about the duties involved and hear first hand of how much fun it can be. Attendees are asked to bring one dish to share and drinks and table service will be provided. Door prizes, treats and goodies are planned.
Interested parties are asked to contact Holly Berg, administrator of the American Gothic House Center at 641-652-3352 or email theamericangothichouse@gmail.com.
