ELDON ? ?American Gothic? is one of the most recognized paintings to people of all ages, yet how many know much about the artist behind this famous work?
John Duggleby, author of the beloved children?s book, ?Artist in Overalls: The Life of Grant Wood.? will reveal Wood?s story at 2 p.m. Saturday at the American Gothic House Center.
Dressed like the famous farmer in the painting, Duggleby shows how Wood?s Iowa childhood observations and determination to follow his instincts instead of the crowd resulted in fame that endures through his American cultural icon. Though geared toward younger visitors, the presentation will delight all audiences.
Refreshment hour to follow.
In the event of rain, the program will be at the Eldon Library Hall.
The event is made possible by the support of the Ottumwa Area Arts Council.
