The Greater Jefferson County Foundation announces a major bequest from the T.L. and Dorothy Henderson Trust. T.L. and Dorothy Henderson were long term residents of Fairfield and Jefferson County. T.L worked for Fairfield Engineering as he was in charge of their accounting department for many years and was Jefferson County Treasurer from 1982-1994.
His wife, Dorothy, was a long-term elementary teacher in the Fairfield Community School District. They both were greatly involved in community activities. T.L. was one of the leaders of the Kiwanis Chapter in Fairfield and was instrumental in the founding and provided continual guidance of the Kiwanis Kids Day Parade and Pancake Days for many decades.
The bequest was announced at the Greater Jefferson County Foundation's annual meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. This gift is given without restriction, meaning that it can be used for any purpose the Foundation Board of Directors feels is in the best interests of the community.
The mission of the Foundation is: 'The Greater Jefferson County Foundation receives, accepts, and distributes funds for educational, cultural, civic and charitable purposes for the benefit of the greater community of Jefferson County, Iowa.” The Foundation was established in 1975 and has had significant growth over the recent years with this type of bequest and being the counties conduit to the Iowa Non-Gaming Community distribution from the State of Iowa.
