GriefShare to be held at the New London Christian Church beginning Wednesday, August 27.
Why a GriefShare program? Most churches/organizations do a great job of caring for individuals in the immediate days following a death and funeral, but as time goes on most people who surround the griever go back to their daily routines, but grievers circumstances don’t change.
That is the reason for GriefShare. To give tools and structure to offer a lay led support group for the sustained support a grieving person needs. New London Christian Church provides the facility for the Grief Share program and it is being co-facilitated by Chuck Reighard and his wife, Susan.
Grief Share is not a counseling group. It is a support group. Everyone involved in the program has lost a loved one, so even though every circumstance varies the one thing that we have in common is that all are continuing to grieve that loss that you never get over.
The Grief Share program is based on a three component design.
First is a video seminar approach where expert teaching is presented on various topics important to people in grief. Those generally are about 30 minutes in length and are very well done.
Second is a group discussion where members are able to discuss how the video relates to their experiences.
Thirdly, each participant has a workbook which allows for notetaking during the video and allows for Bible study application and some journaling on a daily basis.
Grief Share consists of 13 weekly sessions. We begin Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m. and we will go till 7:30 p.m. We will meet every Wednesday with the final session being November 19.
This is an ongoing and consistent ministry. It is 13 weekly sessions and it is designed to be repeated in regular cycles throughout the year. This will be our seventh cycle and the hope is that some members will repeat the process as they will retain new information as they will be in a different place in their healing the second or third time through. It is our hope that each individual who participates will gain comfort, some answers, healing and hope.
This is a Biblically based program as we believe the Bible is a source of practical answers to tough issues, including the loss of a child, spouse, parent and any other loved one.
GriefShare begins Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. This is an open meeting concept. Which means that you can begin at any time. We have had folks begin with us after the third or fourth sessions. That is OK. You take up where you are.
Preregister at www.griefshare.org or at www.nlcclife.com. Or you can register at our first session. Cost is $20 which covers the cost of the workbook.
For more info you can go to the two websites or just show up for the first session and all questions will be addressed.
