In celebration of National Ag Week, March 15—21, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau is gearing up for its third annual Grocery Grab, an energetic and charitable competition supporting The Lord’s Cupboard, Fairfield’s local food pantry.
This year’s event will take place on Thursday, March 19, at Fairfield Hy-Vee. Cart decorating kicks off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Grocery Grab race beginning at 9 a.m. Six teams have already registered, and organizers are encouraging additional local businesses to join the friendly competition.
The Grocery Grab challenges teams of at least two members to race through Hy-Vee aisles in a fast-paced, five-minute shopping spree. Their goal: get as close as possible to $100 worth of groceries without going over — and without using a calculator. All groceries purchased during the event will be donated directly to The Lord’s Cupboard.
In addition to the main challenge, teams can compete for two specialty awards: Best Decorated Cart and Greatest Grabber, recognizing the team that purchases the highest total value of groceries.
The event serves as both a fundraiser and a community-building opportunity, emphasizing collaboration among local businesses while highlighting the importance of agriculture and food access during National Ag Week.
There is no cost to participate, aside from the groceries each business purchases during the challenge. Interested businesses may sign up by emailing Jefferson.county@ifbf.org.
