J-POG, Just Peace Outreach Group, invites the public to explore hope through nonviolence as Jim Fitz of Evanston, Ill., joins the group on Sunday evening, April 19, at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Fitz will speak on ?Nonviolence, Peace with ISIS."
Jim Fitz has 13 years of peacemaking experience in Colombia. He has confronted armed groups, organized soccer games between communities split by war, and attempted to be an active observer in the face of violence. Fitz is an alumnus of Christian Peace Making Teams and has traveled to Colombia 12 times. He will also be sharing about his experiences of accompanying 80 Colombian farm families who were threatened by guerillas and paramilitaries. Fitz is part of Living Water Community Mennonite Church, Chicago, Ill. He is also part of a communal household at Reba Place Fellowship, an Intentional Christian Community which has helped shape his call to peacemaking.
Join J-POG at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, 1408 540th St. SW, Kalona. Come at 6 p.m. for a finger-foods potluck and conversation (please bring your own table service) or at 7 p.m. to hear Fitz?s presentation and see his pictures.
