On Monday the trivia program was 'Harvest Moon”. We started out with a fall word search and for a mid-morning snack we had biscuits right out of the oven with Pumpkin butter. We discussed things that happen in the fall such as the fall harvest, football, making apple cider and apple butter,
cleaning off the garden , raking leaves and the leaves changing colors. The question for the day is 'How do the leaves go from green to many beautiful colors” ? The gorgeous red, orange, and yellow pigments in fall foliage are actually there all year, just under the surface. The sunlight that helps fuel plant cells containing a chemical called chlorophyll, which gives leaves its vivid green. When sunlight diminishes in fall, chlorophyll breaks down , letting the plants hidden colors shine.
