On Sunday, Reverend W. David Watson led chapel services in Epworth Chapel at Halcyon House in Washington. His sermon was titled “Our Foundation.”
Arborwood spent last Monday reminiscing about Neil Diamond as his birthday was Jan. 24. The ladies of Arbor spent the morning singing along, dancing, and drinking hot cocoa as Neil’s “Sweet Caroline” played. Arborwood residents also enjoyed Cardio Drumming on Wednesday’s and drummed along to songs like “Uptown Funk,” “Footloose,” and “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” It was a great week in Arborwood!
Last week, residents of Sagewood got creative and made adorable snowmen from socks and rice. We got together to work our minds at Brain Buster’s group where we play games that are fun, but give us a challenge! To end the week, we got together for a social. Residents enjoyed party punch and sampled Artisan cheese and crackers while chatting. What a fun week we had indoors!
At “Artist with HeArt, we made snowmen using a tube sock and rice for the body. The finishing touches on this little snowmen was using a colorful bootie for the hat and neck scarf, snowflake buttons, black buttons for the eyes and an orange nose made out of felt. Every snowmen was unique and different. It was a fun activity for everyone. Cheers to “Thirsty Thursday”.
Everyone started out with a junk drawer detective titled “Surprise Birthday Party.” This picture activity gives you different things to find with in the picture. This activity is innovative, visual challenging, increases concentration, persistence, and determination and everyone enjoys finding the objects. Texas sheet cake, pumpkin bars, and chocolate chip cookies and a choice of drink were a part of this afternoon social gathering.
Residents of Rosewood have been busy staying active. Mornings are spent with balloon exercise and great music. Afternoons are for crafting 1 to 1, as more snowman creations have been constructed using rice and tube socks. Music videos are a favorite with the duo Joey and Rory. Singing along to favorite songs and an occasional opportunity for a dance offers lots of enjoyment.
Last week, Independent Living and Sitler had an afternoon full of trivia, bingo, and brain busters on Thursday. All residents won at least one bingo and walked away with some yummy prizes like chocolate, chips, jell-o cups, and sodas. Father Bernie Wehr lead mass in Epworth Chapel on Tuesday and many residents attended. Residents played pool Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The ladies even started their own pool league! We had another great week here at Halcyon House.
Lastly, we’d like to wish a happy birthday to Richard Chorpening (1/31) and Mona Paul (2/2)!
