The movie for ?Monday Night at the Movies? was the Disney classic ?Blackbeard?s Ghost? starring Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette. Two-time Academy Award-winner Peter Ustinov stars in this hilarious fantasy as the ghost of Blackbeard. The once black-hearted scoundrel materializes in a small New England town, cursed to wander in limbo until he performs a good deed.
Washington eighth-grader Allison Rebling (daughter of Alan and Vicki Rebling) donated eight colorful and beautiful tie blankets for the residents to enjoy when they go on a campus walk. Allison is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and she made these warm and cozy blankets as a Confirmation project. Helping her with this project was her mentor Mary Gail Lyons. The residents will certainly enjoy the blankets!!
The Sunrise Singers entertained a large group of residents in the Timmins dining room this week. Seventeen students from Washington Middle School helped to beautify our grounds on Wednesday. The residents at Halcyon House enjoyed the energy and enthusiasm displayed by the students and expressed a huge thank you to our ?mulch angels?!
Mary Meeks celebrated her birthday last Friday with a special dinner. Sister, Audra Williams, planned the dinner with her daughter Jeanne, son Joe, grandson Brian, niece Raberta, brother-in-law Wayne and his son Ron.
Over 25 residents and community members continued with us on our journey of the Blue Zones countries, we visited Ikaria, Greece, last Friday evening. They enjoyed authentic Mediterranean cuisine, Greek wine and specialty teas . Following the social hour, everyone was delighted with the Kahraman presentation of the many types of traditional belly dances from different regions in Europe. Those who attended got their passport stamped and if they attend all five Blue Zones countries, they will have a chance at a drawing for a nice prize, at the end of the tour. The next stop on our tour is Okinawa, Japan, Tuesday, June 28. The public is encouraged to attend any of these events.
Virginia Tschantz celebrated Mother?s Day with dinner on Sunday noon with son Rusty and Denise Tschantz, Trevor Tschantz, Tony and Melissa Turner and their children Ada, Hudson, and Sullivan. She also received flowers from son Mike, who was in Minnesota with his family. They were there to see their daughter, Molly, receive her Masters in Reading. Son Kendall found some mushrooms for Virginia to enjoy!
Don and Loretta Gardner?s son, Seth, and his friend Phil came Friday evening to spend the weekend with them. While here, the boys, planted flowers around the Gardeners? patio. On Sunday they all enjoyed dinner together in the Applewood Bistro.
Betty Osincup spent most of Mother?s Day with her youngest daughter, Elyse Chapman and granddaughter, Regina Roselund. They were at the Shiloh Mother?s Day service, then decided to eat out and see a movie. Betty had not been to a movie for many months. They enjoyed seeing the newly released movie ?Captain America.? Later Sunday night Elyse and son, Ben, came to spend some time at Betty?s Halcyon apartment. Betty?s other three daughters phoned?Nancy Roselund from California; Janet Husley from Florida; Donna Olson from North Liberty. It was not the usual Mother?s Day activity like the ?olden days??but Betty thinks she was the oldest person at the theater!!
