The past week has been a busy one! March is Nutrition month and with that in mind, Melissa Boncher, Hy-Vee dietitian, presented a workshop on how to make ?banana ice cream.? This simple recipe required freezing bananas (for a couple of hours) and then throwing them in the blender with a little vanilla extract. Once blended, residents had a choice of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, nuts, chocolate chips and sprinkles to sprinkle on top. Delicious! This is an ideal treat for diabetics, as well. Melissa plans to come back with other programs. One that was suggested a way to fix a meal for one or two and frozen for later use.
A large crowd attended the movie last Saturday night, ?Jackie,? starring Natalie Portman. This week?s feature will be ?Fences? about a one-time promising baseball player, now working as a Pittsburgh garbage collector, and the complicated relationships with his wife, son and friends. Denzel Washington stars in it.
Last Saturday afternoon, many enjoyed Beth Janecek entertain on the piano in Sitler Lounge. This week Virginia Tschantz will play on Saturday at 3:30. Creative coloring on Saturday mornings is still drawing a nice group with room for more coloring enthusiasts.
Team members just finished their first ?Fitbit? challenge. Due to a late start and many not getting their Fitbit in time, Halcyon came in fifth place out of eight Wesleylife locations. A new Fitbit challenge will be starting in April. Watch out, other campuses, we intend to win this challenge!
Sybil Thornton hosted her son and grandson over the weekend, Mike and Will Thornton. They congregated first to enjoy an ?early bird? dinner. The three drove off in a little silver car and ended up at Washington Community Theater.
They enjoyed viewing ?Rumors? by the Harp Players. Mike Thornton said of his childhood friend, Mike Tschantz, ?He is hysterical, even funnier than he was when we played together and I bet he is a great storyteller, coming from a long line of barbers/hairdressers!?
Sunday the three broke the door down at a brunch location, then the two men helped Sybil with her to-do list. We should expect to see Mike and Will again soon as spring is rumored to have arrived!
Birthday wishes go out this week to Fritz Conrad. Fritz?s daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Jacobs, are here visiting from Florida to help him celebrate.
