The weekly church services were provided by the Rev. Scott Johnson, representing the Bethel Church of Wayland. The sermon was titled 'The End Will Come”; Scripture was Matthew 24:1 and Mark 13:1-10. Mallory Johnson and Virginia Tschantz shared their musical talents on the piano.
Halcyon House resident Clyde Pearce presented 'Bridges: Spanning the Gap” on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Bridges are more than just connections between two bodies of land, or across a large chasm separating two points.
They are symbols for many kinds of human interactions. Iowa has more than 24,000 bridges, and 1 of 5 is structurally deficient. The United States has more than 614,000, with 2 out of 5 more than 50 years old.
Yet they vary considerably from tiny footpaths to megalithic structures that serve as a path, a restaurant, a dam and a park. Some are plain and simple. Others are complex and symbolic. Most are strong structures that seem to just sit there, while some are actually alive. What does a 'bridge” mean to you?
Residents of Rosewood have been very busy lately. Music therapy with Sophie Peterson is enjoyed weekly, with familiar songs and lots of fun interaction. We look forward to this every Wednesday. Lots of music is always heard in Rosewood.
We have many great singers who love to remember old songs during sing-alongs. We have an occasional visit from Boo, the little black kitten. He loves to snuggle up on everyone's lap. Richard Colby continues to grace our residents with his love of classical music. He presents a wonderful program on Thursday mornings, called 'Classics et Cetera.”
We really appreciate his knowledge and passion that he brings to this program. Residents are also working on painting scarecrows with acrylic paints, as a fun fall project. In the entryway of Rosewood and all of our Halcyon Households, you will see a 'Thankful Tree.” There are leaves placed beside the trees. We encourage everyone to pick up a leaf and write on it something they are thankful for, and hang it on the tree. Blessings to everyone this Thanksgiving season.
Halcyon House residents and team members wish to extend their deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Bob Bonar.
