On Tuesday, Jan. 10, residents from Avalon and Independent Living enjoyed a wonderful presentation from Rosemary Pacha on ?Tea at the White House.? She had an incredible visual display of photos and books illustrating U.S. presidents and their first ladies? tea sets that were unique to each of their administrations. She even had a personally signed letter sent to her from First Lady Michelle Obama and a photo of the tea set that was used during President Obama?s administration. This was part of the new ?Know Your Neighbor? series for Avalon House Residents.
On Wednesday, Halcyon House residents gathered in the Day Lounge to listen to hymns sung by the Zion Christian Fellowship group which consisted of 12 children and 19 adults. After the group was finished singing, they spent time talking with and getting to know the residents. It was a very enjoyable and uplifting experience for everyone!
The Wellness Department with resident volunteer Gladys Ferguson and on-the-job training student, Elizabeth Brown, kicked off the first session of Adult Creative Coloring. Eight people attended and colored winter themed pictures on Saturday morning.
Eva Gallagher shared her talent on the piano Saturday afternoon in the Epworth Chapel at Halcyon House. She played time-honored hymns for the over 15 residents in attendance. Many of the residents sang along with the hymns they knew.
Saturday evening was movie night. Over 20 residents enjoyed the movie, ?Sully? in the Marshall Game Room at Halcyon House.
Enid Tweeton enjoyed her 91st birthday party on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, with friends and family. She would like to thank everyone who made the day so memorable.
Over the weekend, Mary Ann Hennigan had visitors for lunch and Christmas gift exchange. Visitors were: Pat and Chris Hennigan, daughter Kari, son Ryan and wife Kate and their three sons. All were visiting from the Des Moines area.
Ione Burham enjoyed a visit from her son Drew over the past weekend. Drew stayed over one night in a guest room at Halcyon House.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Dolores Siegle and Paul Kuhlman.
