Residents gathered in the Day Lounge Thursday evening to enjoy the Chmelar Gospel Singers. The group is comprised of Aubrey, Beth and Grace Chmelar, their mother Micki Chmelar, and Tiffany Michel, Ensenada, Mexico, who was visiting family in the Keota area. Residents gathered in the Day Lounge Thursday evening to enjoy the Chmelar Gospel Singers. The group is comprised of Aubrey, Beth and Grace Chmelar, their mother Micki Chmelar, and Tiffany Michel, Ensenada, Mexico, who was visiting family in the Keota area. Some of the gospel and country songs performed were done a capella; others were accompanied by piano, violin and cello. Micki shared with the group that Aubrey, Beth and Grace were home-schooled and their love of music had been passed down over the generations as they sang together as a family for church services and special events.
Enid Tweeton is the proud grandmother of Daniel Erik Tweeton, who graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, Aug. 22, from Logan University, in Chesterfield, Missouri. Daniel not only graduated with honors, he was the valedictorian of his 2015 graduating class! Daniel is the fourth generation of Chiropractor?s in the Tweeton family and will be joining his father?s practice, Tweeton Chiropractic, Washington, in the near future. Daniel?s wife, Kyle, also graduated from Logan University, at Chesterfield, Missouri, Aug. 22, with a degree in Exercise Science. Congratulations to them both!
Halcyon House in partnership with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center hosted a blood drive Thursday, Aug. 27, in the Morrison Center at Halcyon House. Team members and residents donated 10 units, which have the ability to improve the lives of up to 40 patients and their families both in Washington County and the surrounding region! Halcyon House also had one amazing first-time donor, which is always critically important to the continued sustainability of the community blood supply! The Halcyon House Wellness Department would like to give a big thank-you to Gladys Ferguson for volunteering to greet the blood drive donors.
Arbor House and Sitler residents had a busy weekend going on trips and receiving visitors; Ellen Glassel went shopping with her daughter, Ruth Jones. Mary Ellen Saforek?s son, Leland Saforek was her visitor, while Dorothy Nelson made a trip away with her daughter Barb Millward. Leo McGinnis enjoyed a visit with his daughter, Mary Beth Adam, and extended family. Jane Weber attended Mass with her husband Tony, and on Monday, Frances Moore dined at Applewood Bistro with her son Jay and his wife Rita Moore.
Mary Meeks had lunch at the Frontier Wednesday with her sister Audra Williams, brother-in-law Wayne Brock, nieces Jeanne Williams, Raberta Shafer, Fairfield, and Donna Waddell, Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Betty Osincup?s youngest daughter?s birthday was last weekend, which made for several occasions for a family get-together. Elyse Chapman and son, Ben, Donna Schultz, Betty?s oldest daughter, and Regina Roselund, Betty?s granddaughter, all joined in the activities. Friday, Betty and Elyse enjoyed dinner at the Kalona Brewery. Saturday was a day at Shiloh church and Kalona Day activities. Sunday following church, a birthday dinner was enjoyed at Olive Garden, Coralville and ending at their favorite Caribou Coffee House for treats. Saturday evening Betty had a surprise visit from grandson, Ben, who brought a new friend to our Halcyon House campus.
