The weekly church service at Halcyon House was presented by Jason Collier, representing the Ainsworth Community Church/United Church of Crawfordsville, on Sunday, Dec. 28. The sermon was titled 'Get Wet.” Scripture was from Mark 1:1-20. Linda McNiel served as pianist.
At trivia on Monday we worked on a New Year's word search and enjoyed some Ghirardelli chocolates for a midmorning treat.
Some fun facts about New Year's were shared, along with the Top 10 New Year's resolutions. The celebration of the New Year is the oldest of all the holidays. The first New Year's was celebrated some 4,000 years ago by the ancient Babylonians. The Top 3 places to celebrate New Year's are in New York City's Times Square, Las Vegas, and Disney World. At Times Square in New York, a ball (weighing 11,875 pounds, 12 feet in diameter, and adorned with 2,668 Waterford crystals) drops at midnight. The New Year's Eve ball was not lowered in 1942 and 1943 because of all of the wartime restrictions. One fun fact was that all of the ticker tape confetti that falls at Times Square is actually visitors' wishes that have been written on pieces of confetti all year long and added to the 1 ton of confetti that showers the celebration.
Finishing off this program was a New Year's Eve Reflection poem, and we sang 'Auld Lange Syne.”
Happy New Year's wishes were exchanged.
Happy Birthday wishes this week go out to Audrey Stark.
Halcyon House residents and team members wish to extend their deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Donna Schoonover.
