Halcyon House resident Fran Victor, board-certified Chapalin, APL and retired deacon, provided the weekly chapel service to Halcyon House residents on Sunday, April 20. The sermon title was Easter Expressions of Three Women and Peter; Scripture from Luke 24:1. Beth Janecek shared her special talents on the piano.
Bruce Punches Family Band entertained the residents, in the Timmins Multipurpose Room of Halcyon House. The Punches are known for their high energy, entertaining performances, and their concerts feature a mixture of Bluegrass favorites and gospel tunes. The Punch family travels throughout the United States, performing over 100 shows each year. They have been a part of the Mt. Pleasant 'Old Threshers” music lineup for several years. The Punches' musical performance brought a lot of smiles, clapping and toe-tapping by the residents.
This week's trivia program was 'The Sinking of the Titanic.” Pictures were shared of what the inside of the Titanic looked like with the grand staircase to the first-class rooms. It took $7.5 million to build the Titanic and around 2,000 men to build it. The first class passenger ticket for a parlor suite was sold for $4,350, and there was no room numbered 13 on the Titanic since it was considered an unlucky number.
The Monday night movie was the National Geographic 'The Secrets of the Titanic.” 'The Secrets of the Titanic” showed the construction of the Titanic and included a tour of the Titanic, which lies 2.5 miles beneath the ocean surface.
Halcyon House residents, Thursday, April 18, enjoyed making spring spritz cookies in the Rosewood household. This old-fashioned cookie brought back many fond memories of baking with their families, especially,at Christmastime. Although some of those helping had never made them prior to baking class. Different techniques were used to decide the best way to squeeze the dough from the cookie press. The cookies were enjoyed by everyone.
The Easter Bunny, Friday, April 19, visited the Halcyon House residents, and left a sweet treat for every household resident. We wish to thank Margaret Stauffer for being our Easter Bunny and Kara Rogers for photographing the bunny at work. Margaret and Kara are both representatives of the Washington State Bank.
The Halcyon House Wellness Department hosted a blood drive, Tuesday, April 22, in the Timmins Events Center. Mississippi Valley collected 19 units of blood. Those 19 units have the ability to improve the lives of up to 70 patients and their families both in Washington County and the surrounding region.
Halcyon House had five deferrals, which means 24 people come out to try and save lives. Halcyon House had five amazing first-time donors, which is always critically important to the continued sustainability of the community blood supply.
