Halcyon House hosted an Easter egg hunt and other fun activities for children, Wednesday, March 16. The day kicked off with a Children?s Easter Service presented by Mary Jo Koehler. Halcyon House hosted an Easter egg hunt and other fun activities for children, Wednesday, March 16. The day kicked off with a Children?s Easter Service presented by Mary Jo Koehler. Following the Easter service the kids and residents enjoyed a visit from the Easter Bunny, ?Colten? Strand and his helper Conner Strand. A local bank brought baby chicks and Sophie, CeCe and Izzy Murphy shared their two pet bunnies, Opal and Freckles, with the children and residents. Mary Ann Greiner baked Easter cookies for the children to decorate with their grandparents.
Don and Loretta Gardner went to Slater, Saturday to attend the wedding of Joe Disney and Britney Mead. Joe is the son of Loretta?s nephew Brian Disney. While there they met up with several of Loretta?s relatives whom she had not seen in awhile. It was a very enjoyable day despite the short intervals of rain, sleet and snow.
Betty Porter?s guests Sunday were her granddaughter and husband Sarah and Ryan Davis of West Des Moines with their children Logan, age 3, and Brenna, 9-months-old. Sarah is the daughter of Dick and Joleen Porter. Betty so enjoyed the visit with her granddaughter, grandson-in-law and her great-grandchildren.
Church services Sunday in Epworth Chapel were held by Kitch Shatzer. The sermon ?Out of the Valley? was based on the scripture John 12: 12-19.
Monday night at the movies the Disney comedy classic ?Gus? starring Don Knotts, Tim Conway, and Ed Asner was the ?laugh out loud? comedy for the evening. The fun is just getting started as Knotts who plays the football coach of a place-kicking mule in this uproarious comedy.
Wednesday evening the Washington Hustlers 4-H group came and played bingo with the residents. They brought a lot of wonderful treats for bingo prizes that the residents could choose from.
A memorial service for Lorena Goode was held in the Day Lounge Monday afternoon. Darby Dawson accompanied by Chris Marshall (Halcyon House Administrator) on the piano sang ?Amazing Grace? and ?My Chains are Gone.? Lorena?s recipe for burnt sugar cupcakes along with snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies were served after the memorial service .
Since this is the last week for ?Stations of the Cross? Marlin Greiner brought in some delicious pies made by Keota native Kathy (Kevin) Greiner. Cherry, apple, and coconut cream pie was enjoyed by all along with a cup of coffee.
Phyllis Lyle?s guest for lunch Tuesday was her daughter Sarah Rogner of Wisconsin. Sarah was in the vicinity because she was visiting with her son Cameron who was in Iowa City playing baseball with the Bradley team against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Cameron is a pitcher with the Bradley College team.
