Mike and Will Thornton visited from Des Moines and treated Sybil Thornton to a fabulous weekend. They came Friday and left on Sunday afternoon. They enjoyed the beautiful weather, stupendous conversations, delectable food, and wonderful by-ways. Mike and Will even completed many tasks for Sybil. She was very grateful to have her compassionate, caring and patient family visit.
Mike and Jane Leyden hosted a coffee and social time for Mike?s siblings. Joining the Leyden?s in their new apartment were Mike?s bothers and their wives: Phil and Sally, Kim and Joan, Eric and Sherry, Roger and Linda; sister-in-law Donna; and sister, Jean and her daughter, Lynn. They enjoyed visiting and were treated to apple caramel crumb pie prepared by Virginia Tschantz.
Karen McCreedy recently traveled to Iowa State University in Ames for a unique reunion. The group attending the reunion included former ISU roommates of Karen?s late husband, Wilfred, and their spouses. The group met in the new science building on the campus of Iowa State University. They enjoyed lunch in the main dining hall with current Iowa State students. They then returned to the science building and enjoyed some time visiting and catching up. The day also included a tour of the new building and viewing several Ag Science classrooms.
Letha Statler enjoyed a recent trip to the casino with daughters, Peg Helscher and Karen Koehler where they enjoyed seeing the Lennon Sisters.
Jenny and Jason Hunter and Isaac, Joshua, and Rachel recently came to visit their aunt, Carol Gingerich and great grandmother, Bea Johnson. Carol and Bea were treated to a concert when the kids shared the music from their piano recital. They were both thrilled with the musical performance.
We welcome Nancy Maere to Halcyon House. Nancy joins us from her home in the Quad Cities. Nancy relocated to Washington to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, Tori and Scott Lumberg.
It is with much sadness that the Halcyon House family had to say goodbye to two residents this week. We extend our deepest sympathy to the families of Walter Pacha and Reta Beemblossom.
