Costa Rica, the final destination of the Blue Zones Journey was held Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Timmins Dining Room at Halcyon House. Lois Greiner, Ted Griffith, Alice George and several other Halcyon House residents and some community members enjoyed Costa Rican cuisine prepared by the Halcyon House dietary team. Black beans and rice burritos, fresh mango, pineapple, and papaya fruit cups, rum cake along with Caribbean rum cocktails, wine, lemonade and tea were served. Following the meal, several residents attempted to break a piñata. Mike Leyden finally got the job done.
Bev Johnson?s niece, Krista Kessell, came to visit this week from Maryland. She brought along her golden retriever, Bic. The Arbor House dogs, Sophie and Sadie, were a bit intimidated, but the rest of us enjoyed getting to know him.
Rex Severt enjoyed a visit from his daughter, Linda Dasovic, who visited for the day from Omaha, Nebraska.
Ardice Blankenhorn celebrated her birthday with her family. Her daughters, Donna Vick and Jackie Messer along with Jackie?s family, Michelle Davis and Alicia and Dave, joined her in the celebration. Ardice?s great-grandson, Gavin, also joined the celebration at Michelle Davis? home in North Liberty. Ardice spent three nights enjoying her family and celebrating her birthday!
Bob Gerot celebrated his 88th birthday when his family hosted a party for him over the weekend. He and his wife, Peg, were joined by their children and spouses: Laurie and Scottie Pemberton of Washington, Sharon and Mike Dautremont of Cedar Rapids, Nancy and Jay Greene ofAinsworth, and Michael and Karla Gerot of Des Moines. They also enjoyed the company of their grandchildren and even three great-grandchildren.
Carl Schmidt was visited by his sister, Marie Gallagher of Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
Frances Moore welcomed her daughter, Irene Dunkerton, for a visit and they enjoyed their time together catching up on things.
Pam and Gary Edwards joined Edie Trotter in celebrating her birthday with a party at the Applewood Bistro. They even passed out cake throughout campus!
Halcyon House wishes a Happy Birthday this week to Dean Slater, Edie Trotter, and Maxine Peiffer.
