Cowboy Jim was the special music program this week. He brought cowboy hats for the residents to wear and everyone got a maraca to shake to the music. There was a lot of toe-tapping and laughter in this energy-filled program. Cowboy Jim is from Minnesota and travels to six states singing and entertaining people with his comical lyrics. Jim has been singing and playing his guitar for 15 years. What is his motivation for this profession? He enjoys seeing the smiles on everyone?s face, and singing and playing the guitar is something that he likes to share with others.
Reta Beembloosm, Alice George, Ted Griffith and several other Halcyon House residents enjoyed the showing of ?Miracles from Heaven? at Halcyon House, Monday, Aug. 22, in the Gameroom. Approximately 23 residents and guests, three staff members and one volunteer, enjoyed a relaxing and fun afternoon on Coralville Lake. They first had a delicious lunch provided by the Applewood Bistro. They all hopped aboard three different pontoon boats for a ride around the lake that took a couple of hours. Mike Leyden, Dave Liles, and Dan Conrad each manned a boat expertly. Dan surprised his father and Halcyon House resident, Fritz Conrad, when he showed up to serve as captain of one of the pontoon boats. On the way home, a stop for ice cream made for the perfect outing.
Fourteen assisted living residents enjoyed an outing to the newly renovated Lake Darling this week. It was a beautiful day for a picnic lunch, camping stories and games. We even managed to entice a local family to join us in some bubble blowing!
Irene Baughman, Ted Griffith, Ethel Henrickson, Sam Hochstetler, Carolyn Kaufman and Sybil Thornton played Maneuver in the Sitler Lounge Wednesday evening with much intervening conversation and laughs!
Residents are enjoying watching the outside progress on the new building project. Some residents spend time each night out by the pond to see how much the water level has gone up or down, some residents go up to a fourth-floor apartment to view the progress of the brick and siding, and still others are waiting in anticipation for the new concrete drive to be poured. Everyone is eager and willing to help direct visitors who may be a tad bit directionally challenged between the Halcyon House building project and the City of Washington project on Sitler Drive. You can still get to Halcyon House, but you have to come in from South Avenue B.
