The Church of God shared the weekly service with Halcyon House residents this past Sunday. Pastor Dean Elmore shared the sermon titled, ?Importance of God.? He shared Scripture from 1 Timothy 2:4 with those in attendance. Marie Elmore shared a vocal solo for the worship service.
In art class this week everyone was working on Christmas pictures for the December board in the Day Lounge. There were a lot of colorful Christmas stockings, reindeer, and Santas that will be ready for display in a couple of weeks in the Day Lounge. Art work takes a lot of energy, so drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and fruit punch along with something sweet is always a favorite part of art class. Donna Guy is busy painting a portrait of Santa for the board and hopes that she will have it done in time.
The Avalon Harvest potluck was a huge success with an array of different goodies and side dishes brought in from team members and resident families to be shared with everyone. Chris Marshall, Executive Director of Halcyon House, played the piano as residents and their families enjoyed eating their dinner and visiting with one another.
On Tuesday evening the Washington Choral Society shared their musical talent with Halcyon House residents. They sang Christmas songs, much to the delight of the crowd that gathered. This talented group of singers has performed twice at New York City?s esteemed Carnegie Hall, establishing the quality of its already reputable credentials.
Gina Walton of Washington County Hospice presented a timely and beneficial program on how to survive the holidays. Gina shared tips on how to cope with grief and loss for those who dread how everything has changed with happy memories from past years that can?t be recreated.
Completion of the new fitness group exercise room is underway with the remodel of two storage areas to keep equipment, sound system and music. Mirrors will be added to the front of the storage area French doors. A new paint job is coming next and new flooring and chairs are planned for after the first of the year. Residents, staff and our community members are very excited about all the new changes.
George Davison enjoyed a visit from his daughter, Denise Docherty and her husband. They came from Monticello, Illinois, last weekend and enjoyed an outing which included lunch in the Applewood Bistro.
Alice Moore was thrilled to have several days to spend with her son, Larry Wehr and his wife Pam. Larry, Pam and their two canine friends stopped by on the way to Texas from their home in Idaho. Alice?s daughter Linda Helling and her husband John were able to join them for a couple of days too.
Betty Osincup was a guest last Sunday evening of her granddaughter, Regina Roselund, at the casino. Regina was being honored for working there for 10 years. A special chef prepared buffet and CEO Dan Kiel greeted guests at their tables. There were over 300 people in attendance.
Halcyon House residents and team members extend our sympathy to the families of two of our residents and friends who passed away. Our thoughts are prayers are with the families of Karen Scarff and Richard Hayes.
