Pastor Delmer Dean Elmore, representing the Church of God, led the weekly service with Halcyon House residents. The sermon was titled?Answered Prayer.? Dorothy Yoder shared her musical gifts on the piano.
On Tuesday, May 30, Katrina Altenhoffen was the speaker for the ?Know Your Neighbor? series. She talked about her family, interests, hobbies and how her professional career paths lead her to the current position as Executive Director of Hospice of Washington County. Father Bernie Sanders from St. James Catholic Church came to the Chapel and gave Mass in the afternoon.
On Wednesday, May 31, some of the residents and staff enjoyed an outing and picnic at Lake Darling Park in Brighton. It was a beautiful sunny day and a wonderful time was had by all. That afternoon some residents of Rosewood, Sagewood and Wedgewood came together for cooking class and made Blond Brownies. Eveline Adam gave the Rosary in Wedgewood Family Room and Marcella Reed gave the Rosary in the Chapel.
On Thursdays, volunteer Richard Colby informs and entertains residents in The Dolores B. Witte Sensory Room in Rosewood and also in the Chapel with his classical music program called ?Classics Et Cetera?; volunteer Carol Mottet plays ?Dice? with residents in the Wedgewood Family Room; volunteers Al and Lorna Olson facilitate a Bible Study group in the Wedgewood Family Room for residents in the afternoon. Pastor Moody Colorado of West Chester came and entertained a large group of residents in the Rosewood Activity Room for his Hymn sing.
On Friday, June 2, in honor of the WWI Salvation Army Doughnut Girls, residents came together in Rosewood and made doughnuts and enjoyed them during fellowship and food that afternoon for Happy Hour.
On Monday, June 5, in honor of National Garden Week, residents of Arborwood enjoyed an outing to the Maple Avenue Nursery to select plants that they latter potted on Wednesday for the outdoor garden area.
On Tuesday, June 6, Independent Living residents Gladys Ferguson and Bea Johnson taught a group of health care residents how to play the card game ?Maneuvers.? A large group of residents came to the Rosewood Activity room to listen to Lending Hands team member Mary Jo Koehler sing and play the guitar. That afternoon, Music Therapist Elisabeth Tinnes sang and played the guitar with a large group of residents in both Rosewood and Wedgewood.
On Thursday, June 8, celebrating the birthday of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), residents of Rosewood created ?faux? stained glass window pictures. That afternoon, Mary Escher and Donna Moeller entertained residents in the Rosewood Activity Room by playing the accordion.
Beth Janecek traveled to Spirit Lake with her daughter, Carmen, Carmen?s friend and Beth?s niece. They spent four days eating and visiting. While on the trip they celebrated Beth?s birthday and visited the county nature center.
Larry and Ruth O?Connor of Altoona visited his cousin, Mary Meeks in the afternoon on Memorial Day. Dick and Malinda Meeks of Mountain Home, Arkansas, recently visited his mother, Mary and other relatives in the area. The three of them plus Mary?s sister, Audra Williams and daughter, Jeannie; Mary?s brother-in-law, Wayne Brock and son, Ron enjoyed lunch together during the visit.
?The Miracle of Mercy? is hosted by Glenys Clark weekly at 10 a.m. on Thursdays in the Marshall Gameroom. The group including Sybil Thornton and Maxine Davisson invite others to join in and see what mercy really looks like? with Rick Warren!
