Bob and Peg Gerot were happy to attend the first birthday party for their great-granddaughter Emery JoCollins on Saturday, March 12. Bob and Peg Gerot were happy to attend the first birthday party for their great-granddaughter Emery JoCollins on Saturday, March 12. All seven of their great-grandchildren were there to help celebrate the occasion. They were Lane, Leyton and Rees Elmquist, Jack Dautremont, Cora Walker, the honoree Emery Jo and the newest one, only 1 week old, Bo Robert Roder. It isn?t very often that they all get together at the same time So cameras were busy as lots of pictures were taken. Bob and Peg feel greatly blessed to be included in celebrating with their great-grandchildren.
Saturday evening Virginia Tschantz attended the play, ?The Fox on the Fairway? at the Washington Community Theater. Virginia?s son Mike had a leading role in the play. Also attending were Kendall Tschantz and his friend Heather Lucas, Darlene Rosholt of Decorah and Greg and Sue Rosholt, Susan Scherman and friend Don Lane from Minneapolis, Minn. The group had dinner before going to the play thus making for a very entertaining evening.
Bonnie Nolan, of Gibson, and Gladys Ferguson enjoyed lunch at the Bistro March 14. While here Bonnie also visited with Enid Tweeton.
Pastor Bob Wollenberg, United Presbyterian Church, was with us on Sunday, March 13. The service was based on the scripture Psalm 121. Special music was performed by Mary Atwood. On Sunday, March 20, the service in the Chapel will be by Haven Mennonite.
On Wednesday Carol Pilcher was joined for lunch at the Bistro by Bill and Janice Blackburn of Keosauqua. Bill and Janice are former Washington residents as Bill was assistant plant superintendent for the former McCleery Cumming Co. and Janice was employed by Seiferts. It was a good visit by old friends.
Monday night at the movies the residents enjoyed watching ?That Darn Cat,? starring Haley Mills, Dean Jones, Dorothy Provone, and Roddy McDowell. This movie brought a lot of laughter and smiles as they watched this comedy chock full of feline mystery and adventure. The fur flies when a smart Siamese cat named DC goes undercover to help solve a robbery and kidnapping.
The Easter bunny and his helper came to visit the Avalon residents Wednesday afternoon passing out candy to everyone. They also made an appearance at the Easter egg hunt that included staff and their children. The Easter bunny was Kolton Strand, and his helper was Conner Strand grandsons of Ethel Sieren. There were a lot of smiles and laughter as the Easter Bunny hopped his way down the hallways.
At the Creative Art Class residents who finished their projects got to share their masterpieces with everyone. If you get a chance stop at the Avalon Day Lounge and look at these colorful pictures that have been put on the bulletin board.
Marilyn Weatherman has been helping the birds with their bathing. She cleaned up the bird bath and supplies it with fresh water. The birds really appreciate her help. Residents enjoy watching the birds splash along in the bath. Another gazing activity is the new fish tank, seeing all of the colorful fish swimming around provides another pastime.
