Halcyon House News

Pastor Rick Zickefoose, representing the Brighton Community Church, provided the weekly chapel service to Halcyon House residents on Sunday, June 9, 2019. The sermon title was 'Invest In Heavenly Dividends.” Scripture from Matthew 6:19-21., was shared with those in attendance. Beth Janecek shared her talents on the piano. Special guest, Anne Zickefoose was in attendance.

Halcyon House residents and several community members are partaking a three week on-site 'A Journey Through Parkinson's Disease,” an educational series from Iowa State University. The educational series consists of three, 45-minute sessions held once a week. Dawn Dunnegan, a Human Sciences Specialist in southeast Iowa, is teaching the classes, which include interactive lessons, discussions, and activities. Sessions are scheduled for June 11, 18 and 25 from 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m., at the Halcyon House in the Marshall Game Room. There is a no fee for the program. Wednesday, June 5, Rosewood residents participated in our weekly music therapy program, with Sophie Peterson, from the Joy of Music. Joy of Music hosts excellent programs for Halcyon House residents. Halcyon House residents have a wonderful time at Joy of Music programs.

The smell of fresh-baked cookies filled the air in Arborwood, as we all baked homemade frosted oatmeal cookies. Everyone helped and the cookies were delicious. Always a great social time! Stories and memories are always shared.

Also on Thursday afternoon, Al and Lorna Olson are so kind and giving of their time, as they lead our Bible Study in the Wedgewood family room each week.

JP Channels, WesleyLife Spiritual Life Director, led Spiritual Life Trainings at Halcyon House, Tuesday, June 4, in the Marshall Game Room. JP shared information regarding the following topics; Life in Death, Space as Spirituality, Art Therapy, Generosity and Living with Purpose. The Halcyon House Lifestyles and Wellness Teams are planning to implement the spiritual life classes into Halcyon House programming.
