Assisted living residents journeyed to Marr Park Thursday afternoon, Sept. 10, to visit the nature center. Conservationist Kathy Dolan received the group and provided a presentation about native wildlife habitat. A couple of the residents were brave enough to hold a snake that lives at the nature center. Even those not brave enough to hold the snake were treated to ice cream from Ainsworth Dairy Mart before heading home!
Dr. Dwayne Capper, ENT, and Dr. Stephen Schomer, M.D., FACC, were guest speakers Monday, Sept. 21, in Morrison Center. Residents from the community, including 13 residents from Avalon House, attended to learn about ?A New Fix for an Old Problem, Sleep Apnea,? and ?Cardiac Implications of Sleep Apnea.? After the presentation, Avalon?s residents dined at Applewood Bistro.
Allen Severt from West Des Moines joined his dad Rex for dinner at Timmins dining room during his visit Thursday, Sept. 24.
Don and Loretta Gardner were pleased to have their daughter Pam from Lebanon, Oregon, visit them last week. Saturday, Don and Loretta traveled to Maquoketa to visit Loretta?s brother, Lynn Disney. Terry and Donna Miller, daughter Mackinsie, and Pam were Sunday afternoon visitors for an enjoyable family get-together.
Residents enjoyed Sunday church service at Epworth Chapel provided by Pastor Dan Drost, of Reformed Presbyterian Church of Washington. The Sept. 27 Scripture reading was from Ephesian: 3: 1-7.
Beautiful fall weather is a good reason to get out and enjoy the scenery! Carol Pilcher took a road trip to visit her family on the Mississippi river in Minnesota the last weekend of September.
Soon the temperature will start to dip, but while the sun is shining, assisted living residents are taking full advantage of the mild afternoon weather while savoring their tasty fruit smoothies on the courtyard patio. Sadie and Sophie, Arbor House?s resident dogs, keep the residents company and hope for their reward of a dog biscuit for being good companions!
Thursdays are special for music lovers at Halcyon House. Dick Colby presents a classical music program in Epworth Chapel, where residents and guests listen to a musical selection from various composers, learning facts about the piece. Dick, we really appreciate your sharing your passion for music. Thank you!
September?s weather has allowed Avalon residents to enjoy dining on the patio north of Garden View dining room, where the sun-filled flower garden has been a leisurely setting for lunch.
