The Church of God led our weekly service on Sunday. Halcyon House residents really appreciate the generosity of the local churches who take turns sharing a weekly service for us on Sunday afternoons.
The assisted living residents have enjoyed spending time in the courtyard during the beautiful spring weather we have been having. They have participated in gardening projects and a barbecue recently. Many of them also enjoyed reminiscing while observing the tractor parade from a line of chairs along West Tyler Street.
Over 25 residents from Avalon House sat outside under the shade tree with root beer floats and watched the tractor parade last Friday.
Following breakfast many residents enjoyed a stroll outside to watch the rabbits and squirrels running in the yard. Smelling the beautiful flowers and feeling the sun on our faces was enjoyed by all. They laughed and shared memories while having outside picnics complete with a sack lunch.
Griff, our pet therapy dog, has been a frequent visitor in the health center. Residents gathered on Monday night in the Day Lounge for movie night. They enjoy the weekly cinema time.
Avalon House hosted a Flowers and Float activity this week. Residents potted small plants and made and enjoyed root beer floats.
A really relaxing trip to Lake Darling was enjoyed by many residents last week. They enjoyed a delicious sack lunch prepared by Applewood Bistro and then took a scenic tour around the lake and stopped for ice cream in Brighton. They then backtracked to go by Isy Flanders? farm and circled around Mercy Brinning?s drive. Those enjoying the trip were Pat Sieren, Marcella Reed, Isy Flander, Maxine Davison, Bonnie Bonnell, Betty Osincup, and Karen McCreedy.
Seven residents and two guests enjoyed a shopping trip to Tanger Outlet Mall in Williamsburg on Tuesday. The group stopped first for a delicious lunch at the Landmark and then shopped for a few hours at the mall. Many found just what they were looking for and were able to catch up with old friends while enjoying the scenery to and from. The trip was enjoyed by Maxine Davidson, Marcella Reed and friend, Donna Hooley, Gladys Ferguson, Fritz Conrad, Eva Gallagher, Alice George and friend.
Fritz Conrad enjoyed a visit from relatives this week. His visitors included: son, Dan and grandson, Jonathan from Washington. Visiting from the Black Hills in South Dakota were granddaughter, Stacy and great-grandsons, Ethan and Caleb. They enjoyed catching up and joined Fritz for lunch and ice cream in the dining room at Halcyon House.
The Rev. Ben Blanchard with the United Methodist Church hosted lunch for several resident members in the Applewood Bistro.
Lewis Meeks from Prairie Grove, Arkansas, arrived on May 27 to visit his mother, Mary Meeks. On May 28 they attended the Alumni Banquet at the Ainsworth Opera House. This was Lewis? 50th year reunion and Mary?s 75th! On May 30 Mary traveled with Lewis back to the new home they had built in a subdivision there. She spent eight days enjoying the time that was spent playing ?Dice? and eating out and just resting. Lewis and Cathi brought her home this past Tuesday.
