Our Assisted Living residents enjoy playing cards every Friday afternoon. They play Manuever with Mercy Brinning and Marjy Martin. They are treated to refreshments each week; however, this past Friday, Mercy treated the group to birthday cake as she was celebrating her birthday. Marjy volunteers each week setting up, serving and helping with cards.
Lending Hands participants enjoyed playing ?What Am I?? this Tuesday led by Halcyon House Wellness Director, Becky Carter. Becky read clues to the class while they carefully listened and tried to figure out what she was describing to them. The class did a great job,;they figured out that Becky was describing a clothespin before she read all the clues! The clue that gave it away was, ?this object is normally used with a line.? Following the brain health game, the group participated in an exercise class that incorporates flexibility, strength, balance and endurance training.
Avalon House residents have been enjoying dining outside. Large groups of residents eat outside on a regular basis in the gardens. The wonderful weather has also allowed many residents to spend time outside on campus walks.
Independent Living residents have spent time beautifying the grounds at Halcyon House. Marilyn Weatherman is enjoying the hummingbirds visiting the feeder. Wes and Carol Madsen have everyone on campus guessing what the purpose is of the Slinkys on the Shepherd?s crooks. We want to thank Denny and Connie Sorrell for overseeing our grounds crew and making sure the IL residents get to enjoy their own outdoor touches.
Mary Dawson enjoyed seeing two of her granddaughters graduate from college in May. Mary traveled with family to Oskaloosa in early May. She saw her granddaughter, Chloe Leigh Kleinschmidt graduate from William Penn College with a BA in science. Mary traveled to Davenport in mid-May with her family. She attended the graduation ceremony at St. Ambrose University where her granddaughter, Courtney Anne Kleinschmidt graduated from the Social Work Master?s program. Mary was a very proud grandmother.
Phyliss Lyle has welcomed her daughter, Nancy and husband. They are visiting from Manassas, Virginia.
Dean Slater had a visit from daughters, Rhonda and Vickie. They spent time at the cemetery together honoring and remembering Dean?s late wife, Ruth. They enjoyed time together dining out and posting their dad?s pictures on Facebook.
Halcyon House welcomed new residents this week. Bev Johnson has joined the residents in Arbor House. She comes to Washington from her home in Silvis, Illinois. Bev has relocated to be closer to her family.
