Mr. Dicks, Superintendent of Washington Community School District, spoke with Halcyon House residents on Tuesday, Sept. 29. During his presentation, he shared his career path bringing his family to Washington. Mr. Dicks gave an overview about school funding and student enrollment. Advancements in technology were highlighted letting the residents know beginning in fifth grade students are given their own computer for school use.
Residents learned about the construction updates at both the high school and Stewart Elementary. Kirkwood Community College offers a wide range of opportunities for current high school students, post-high school students, and individuals in the surrounding communities.
Washington Community School District successfully applied for a Teacher Leadership Grant that will be implemented during the 2016-2017 academic year. It was clear, after hearing about all of the topics presented, there are many ways of school district works to make sure all students are provided the best possible education. People living at Halcyon House have had the opportunity to be involved with students across all grade levels during presentations, program and the high school students who are employed in our facility. Residents are fortunate to live in a community where the partnership between school and all community members is encouraged and welcome.
Residents enjoyed Sunday church service at Epworth Chapel provided by Pastor Ben Blanchard, of United Methodist Church of Washington. The October 4th scripture reading was from Matthew: 5: 20.
