The weekly church services Aug. 4 were provided by Pastor Timothy O'Tool representing Prairie Flower Baptist Church. The sermon was titled 'The Authority of the King.” The weekly church services for the week of Aug. 11 were provided by Sarah Graves. The sermon was titled, 'Chaos.” Beth Janecek served as pianist.
Congratulations to July 600 Club members! The following people worked out at least 600 minutes in July: Larry Canfield, Shirley Canfield, Bill Chmelar, Roger Cutkomp, Gladys Ferguson, Audrey Goldsmith, Bea Johnson, Jane Leyden, Karen McCreedy, Clyde Pearce, Marcella Reed, Denny Sorrell, Rosie Stelton, Linda Sturdevant, Fran Victor, Peter Weller, and Sandy Weller. In total, the group worked out more than 26,000 minutes in July. Great job to all of the participants!
Halcyon House residents celebrated August birthdays with a monthly birthday club. Residents in attendance to celebrate their birthdays with doughnuts and coffee were Virginia Tschantz, Mathena Barta, Lea Smothers, Gladys Ferguson and Gladys Carson.
Keeping with the theme 'A Taste of Summer” for August, everyone enjoyed an afternoon snack of cold watermelon and cantaloupe from Stout's market. Since the gardens are producing so many items in the Halcyon households, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers have also been on the menu for a 'Taste of Summer.”
Aug. 12 was a 'Peachy Keen Day.” While working on their vegetable garden word search, everyone snacked on fresh Missouri peaches.
At Current Events this week was special guest speaker Tim Rustan, from Florida, son of Garth and Harriett Rustan. He told stories about the python issues that plagued him on his travels. He enjoys cooking and will be bringing cheese cake for those who attend Current Events on Monday.
Wedgewood and Sagewood household residents have enjoyed eating out on the patio. The new patio umbrellas have provided shade from the sun. Cucumbers and sweet pickles were served along with this summer picnic.
Birthday wishes go out this week to Mathena Barta, Marilyn Davis, Helen Reschly, Laurilee Chalupa and Trusa Cutkomp.
